The father of the Nowrosjee Wadia College student, who was allegedly abducted in broad daylight on busy Mangaldas Road on Friday, has alleged that the Pune police failed to act on a complaint he filed in October last year, stating he was getting threatening calls from a business rival.

The victim’s father, a businessman based in Bopodi, is fighting cases against his business rival, Ramgopal Keshavnath Goyal, in the Cantonment and Shivajinagar courts.

He told DNA he had given a written complaint to the police commissioner, Meeran Borwankar, in October about Goyal threatening him to withdraw the cases.

“I had written a complaint to the commissioner and gave her prior intimation in October 2010 that my family and I are getting threatening calls to withdraw my cases. But the police did not show any interest and the abductor used my daughter as a tool,” he said.

He alleged the lackadaisical attitude of the Pune police was the reason for his daughter undergoing the harrowing experience. He said the abductors wounded his daughter’s hands with a sharp knife.

“Around 7.30 pm, I received the first SMS from my daughter’s cellphone, which said my daughter has to bear the dues for which I was liable and she will be handed over to me in a short while. Later, they sent me five more SMSes. At 10.45 pm, I got a call from the Khadki police that they had found my daughter and she was unconscious. When I reached there, I was shocked to see her condition,” he said.

When contacted, Borwankar said she was not aware of the complaint. Police sub-inspector MN Sanadi, who is investigating the case said, “We are investigating the case. We are probing into the matter on the basis of the SMSes that have been sent.”

The father narrated the harrowing experience his daughter underwent. She told him that the abductors gagged her with a handkerchief. Later she was taken into a room blindfolded with her scarf. “They used a pointed weapon and started injuring her. They forced her to drink her some liquid, which she vomited immediately,” he said.

The girl was forced into a cream-coloured van on Mangaldas Road on Friday evening. After over five hours of the ordeal, the girl, who is pursuing her studies in science, was set free by the suspects at 10.30 pm in an isolated place near Mariaai Gate in Wakadewadi.
The girl’s father lodged a first information report at the Bund Garden police station on Saturday about the incident.
