Aadhaar-less BMC staff to get December pay

The nearly 20,800 civic employees, who were not given salary for December for want of the unique identity card (UID), must be relieved. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has given them an extension of two months for submitting the Aadhaar cards.

The decision was taken following a meeting between senior civic officials, including municipal commissioner Sitaram Kunte, additional municipal commissioner Manisha Mhaiskar and other senior civic officials.

“We have decided to extend the period for submission of cards. Their salaries will be processed after the 10th day of a month. So, to ensure they get salary for April, they must have their cards latest by March 10. They can either submit the card or receipt of registration for Aadhaar to their respective establishments,” Kunte said.

“The salary for December will be released soon,” said Mhaiskar.

Stopping of salaries had evoked sharp reactions among several employees on Wednesday. An employee said, “There are some who submitted their cards and yet their salaries were stopped.”

When asked if the municipal administration will crackdown on erring departments’ staffers who ignored the submission of card, Kunte said a decision in this regard will be taken depending on more information on the matter. “We will have to check if any staffer was at fault,” Kunte added.
