Rajwant Kaur ‘Molly’ Mann is a Sikh girl born in Pune, and blessed with a unique artistic talent. Her recent debut painting exhibition at Jehangir Art Gallery was a tribute to the spirit of Mumbai.

Kaur is an abstractionist who sees Mumbai, its slums, skyscrapers, the hustle-bustle as viewed through the eyes of a sardine can. Most of her abstracts are classy, with imaginative use of colour, acrylic, oil and mixed media on canvas and handmade uncut paper.

Presently she’s working on her Masters in Fine Arts.

“There’s just one life, and I’d like to do everything. I like to live with my madness,” she says softly.

Quite a few of her works have been lapped up, “but they bargain over the prices,” she complains.

“Mumbai is truly feminine, with a woman’s strength, pregnant with life and full of hope for all her children,” she says.

Rajwant Kaur ‘Molly’ Mann looks like she’s going to be the new buzz in art circles very shortly. She is a woman of tremendous self-belief, and multitasks between teaching, studying, being a mother and wife - and of course, painting.
