With the rise in construction debris in the city and mounds of garbage accumulating at Deonar and Mulund dumping grounds, BMC has plans to set up another dumpyard on the outskirts of the city in Taloja.

But there is still no clarity if the proposed dumping ground in Taloja will be used for dumping of solid waste or construction debris.

Anil Diggekar, additional municipal commissioner(projects), said, "We are proposing to buy a 100-200 acre land in Taloja but it is not for dumping solid waste management but for construction debris. It will also be used for all recycling of waste plant, asphalt plant and bio-medical waste incinerator plant"

However, when standing committee chairman Ravindra Waikar was contacted, he said, "We will soon put forth a proposal for dumping of solid waste in Taloja at the group leaders' meeting and the standing committee. It was becoming difficult to handle garbage in Deonar dumping ground which is prone to fire outbreaks these days."

But what residents of eastern suburbs want to know is if the proposed dumping ground by the civic body end their woes? "Would our problem be solved by this 100-acre land? Would they shut down Deonar dumping ground?" asked Rajkumar Sharma, president of Chembur First, an NGO taking up civic issues in eastern suburbs. Diggekar informed that Deonar dumping ground will not be shut down. "There's a Rs500-crore project in the pipeline for land filling and recycling plant at Deonar," said Diggekar.
