While property developers claimed that the response from buyers was better this year compared to last year, automobile dealers sold more than 5,000 vehicles. The sweet shops too saw a rise in the sale of basundi and shrikhand while it was normal business for readymade garment shop owners.
Property developers are certainly happy with the response from customers this year, according to vice-president of Credai, Rohit Gera. Gera’s company Gera Development Private Limited handed over more than 15 properties on Gudi Padwa.
“The overall picture in the city indicates that the customers are in a positive mood about purchase of property. Property developers in the city have conveyed this to me,’’ said Gera.
According to Regional Transport Office officials, more than 5,000 vehicles were purchased by the people on the auspicious occasion including 2,000 four-wheelers. A sales officer of DSK Motors said all their showrooms saw a sale of 100 plus vehicles on Friday.
The sale of electric appliances like refrigerators, television sets and cameras too went up. People rushed to shops take home these appliances throughout the day.
However, the readymade garment shop owners on Laxmi Road were unhappy over low turnout of buyers which they blamed on parking problems.
Kishan Parwani of Fashion Fabrics on Laxmi Road said the change in parking system on Laxmi Road had affected their business this year on Gudi Padwa. “After Diwali, this is the first occasion when people shop. However, since parking is allowed only on one side, many customers now avoid coming to Laxmi Road to shop for garments,’’ he added.
Demand for sweets too surged on the festive day. Basundi and shrikhand were much in demand. Shrikrishna Chitale, owner of Chitale Bandhu Mithaiwale, told DNA that they had to prepare chakka in huge quantity on Gudi
Padwa.
“Chakka is used to make shrikhand at home. Some prefer readymade shrikand but many prefer to take chakka and prepare the sweet as per their taste. Malai pedhas and basundi too was in demand,’’ he said.
Kaka Halwai Sweet shops too saw a rise in the sale of basundi, jalebis and shrikhand.
