Mumbai: Now, here's a solution to the problem of protecting Mumbai's open spaces.

There is a clause for protection of open spaces, places of scenic beauty and woods in the Gujarat Heritage regulation 17.20.1.
In the Mumbai heritage laws, there is no mention of seafronts, gardens and places of ecological importance.

The Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) is planning to consider Gujarat Heritage Regulations as Mumbai city is following the 1991 heritage rules.

"We will consider views from other members of the Heritage Committee on Thursday and submit it to the government," said Dinesh Afzalpurkar, chairman, MHCC.

"Mumbai has 0.003 acres of open space per 1,000 people. In Mumbai, Oval Maidan is the only Grade I heritage open space. It will be a great move to include that clause as Mumbai," said Nayana Kathpalia, convenor, Citispace, an NGO for open spaces.
