9 bikes parked at society building gutted, cops clueless

In a shocking incident, nine bikes were set ablaze in the wee hours of Monday in Kandivli (East). The Samta Nagar police are still clueless whether it was an accident or somebody purposefully did it.

Due to the fire around 500 residents of Hanuman Nagar area at Kandivli could not sleep fearing that the rising flame might engulf their houses also. But fortunately the fire brigade reached after half an hour and managed to douse the fire with the help of residents.

According to police, the incident took place around 2am on Monday near Varanasi Hotel, Hanuman Nagar, galli number 2, Kandivli (East).

“The residents were sleeping when the fire started but one resident who came late from his job saw flames coming out from the parked bikes. There were eight bikes and all were burning. The person immediately informed the neighbous,” said a police officer.

“All the bikes were burning outside my house. After seeing the flame, I rushed out along with my family. But soon I realised that my father was sleeping on mezzanine floor of the house then my brother and I managed to rescue him,” Vijay Yadav, an eyewitness, said.

“All the residents were alerted so they could come out at safer place,” said Yadav.

“A case has been registered against unknown persons but the investigation is going on all possible angles whether it was accidental or on purpose,”said  senior inspector Anant Kenjale.
