The Kothrud police on Sunday arrested eight youths belonging to well-known families for allegedly creating public nuisance under the influence of alcohol early on Sunday in a housing society near Mehendale Garage Chowk.

Cases were filed against them under relevant sections of the Bombay Police Act, 1951. Those arrested have been identified as Abhishek Ganesh Shetty (27) of Nilambari Society near Mehendale Garage; Siddharth Benninger (29) of Prabhat Road; Astad Pramod Kale (27) of Shukrawar Peth; Kaustubh Ramchandra Deshpande (26) of Yashwant Apartment; Sohrab Mohan Deshmukh (28) of Vimannagar; and Ameya alias Abhay Vasant Gosawi (27) of Navketan Society; Suhrud Shrirang Godbole (26), of Deccan Gymkhana; and Ajinkya Khanbote (28).
Assistant sub-inspector SD Deshmukh said all eight were taken to Sassoon Hospital for medical examination and then produced in court, which released them on personal bonds of Rs5,000 each. The case would be heard on April 29.

The police said they received a call at 3.30 am that some youths were trying to take a woman, who was under the influence of liquor, inside a residence as she was about to sit in a Skoda car. The police rushed to the spot and nabbed the youths.
In the morning the police claimed Marathi actor, Saee Tamankar, was the woman involved. She told DNA,“I was returning home after a party and some youths passed obscene remarks at me. I did not file a police complaint since I did not see their faces. It was pitch dark.” The police also gave the actor a clean chit in the evening, saying she was not involved in the incident.

Suhrud’s father and filmmaker, Shrirang Godbole, denied that any of the eight were involved in creating public nuisance. “Although the police arrested them, the court granted them bail,” he added.
