78 tola gold recovered from youth in Pimpri Chinchwad

A 19-year-old youth was arrested by the Pimpri police for allegedly committing burglary at the house of  the former standing chairman of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, Rajaram Narayan Kapse (45), in November last year. The police recovered recovered 78 tolas of gold from the suspect, Pankaj Dilip Pawar, a resident of Pimpri.

Kapse (45), a resident of Morewadi in Pimpri had registered a case of house breaking on Laxmi puja day on November 6, 2010. The suspect entered the bungalow from the balcony and decamped with all gold ornaments kept near the idol for puja. The suspect stole about 88 tolas of gold ornaments, valued at Rs9.38 lakh.

According to the police, “Pawar was earlier arrested in a rape case. We got a tip-off from the informer that Pawar was about to sell the ornaments. We raided his house and recovered 78 tolas of gold. On interrogation he revealed that he had stolen it from Kapse’s house.” Pawar was produced before the judicial magistrate (first class) and remanded in police custody till Saturday.

The principal district and sessions judge, Anant Badar, on Tuesday permitted Ujwal Nikam, special public prosecutor in the BPO employee Jyotikumari Choudhari rape and murder case, to file an application to examine the credentials of Mahendra Kawchale, the defence lawyer in the case, who was arrested recently on charges of impersonation. The court granted Nikam permission to file the application on May 20. So far, 27 prosecution witnesses have been examined by Kawchale before he was arrested by the police.

Lifer for man for killing lover

The court of Anant Badar on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to 35-year-old Dhaku alias Daku Badekar for killing a woman with whom he had an illicit relationship. According to the prosecution, the convict had an illicit relationship with 43-year-old Subhadra Mahadev Kamble, a resident of Urulikanchan.

On January 10, 2009, Dhaku doused Subhadra with kerosene and set her ablaze as he suspected her fidelity. Subhadra suffered 100% burns and succumbed to her injuries at Sassoon General Hospital. Additional public prosecutor Ujjwala Pawar examined six witnesses, including Subhadra’s sons. However, Subhadra’s dying declaration played an important role in the case.
 

Fireman suffers injuries

A fire brigade personnel, Chandrakant Anandas (40), suffered injuries while dousing a fire in Ganesh Peth on Tuesday morning. Fire station officer Shivaji Memane said that while Anandas was dousing the blaze, a part of the wall collapsed, injuring him. He was rushed to a private hospital and was given seven stitches.
Husband, in-laws booked.

The Shivajinagar police have booked a teacher of a Hadapsar-based school and his parents for allegedly torturing their daughter-in-law, Avisha, following which she jumped to her death from  Sinhagad Fort on April 22. The Haveli police recovered Avisha’s body two days later, along with a pair of slippers, an orange scarf and an orange hair band near the body.

The victim was the daughter of a police constable, Sanjay Sahebrao Magade. It is alleged that Sandip and his parents used to pressurise Avisha to get money from her parents.
