Mumbai: In a special drive conducted by Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel against trespassers for two hours on Monday at Kurla station, 77 persons were caught while crossing railway tracks.
Eight were schoolchildren between 4 and 7 years of age. They were crossing the tracks with their mothers while going to school.

Inspector Sanjay Singh said the RPF personnel also caught Rehana Mumtaz, 45, principal of AK Girls high school at Sandhurst Road.

She was crossing the tracks between platform numbers 8 and 4.
Kurla residents Prakash More (17) and Sandeep Bhole (17), who were caught while crossing tracks, said, "Because of the heavy rush at the station, they find it cumbersome to use foot-over bridges." The two were going to college.

Sub-inspector MB Dokhe of RPF office, Kurla, said, "After catching them, we took them to our office and informed their parents or family members. We also told them that crossing tracks could prove to be fatal. They promised they would never cross tracks again. After that, we allowed them to go."

"Between January 1 and June 28 this year, 200 commuters were killed, while 226 were injured while crossing the railway tracks in the jurisdiction of Kurla railway police, " said senior police inspector Dilip Gore.
