7 convicted in Irfan Chindi murder case

All the accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

On Monday, the session court convicted seven persons who were arrested in connection with the murder of Irfan Maqbool Hasan Khan alias Irfan Chindi, who was reportedly a police informer. All the accused have been sentenced to life imprisonment.

On April 3, 2009, Chindi was assaulted and stabbed to death by unknown assailants below his residence at Nagpada.

Seven people were arrested in the murder case Yusuf Khan Kasam Khan, Irfan Abdul Rauf Shaikh alias Irfan China, Suleman Moiddin Shaikh aliasPappe, Shakir Ahmed Abdul Khan alias Kalu, Jakir Ahmed Shakir Khan, MohammedIbrahim Sayyed and Mohammed Taufik Shafi Shaikh.

According to the police, Chindi was among the top-notch informers in Mumbai. Chindi was very close to late police inspector Vijay Salaskar, who was killed in the 26/11 attack near Cama Hospital.

Chindi himself had many informers working for him whom he used to pay and then offered their information to the police.

My brother was killed as he was suspected to be an important informer of Mumbai police said Akram Khan, the brother of Chindi.

“Chindi was an informer of the police and he was killed as he was providing some important information to the police,” said public prosecutor Kalpana Chavan.

A witness in the case, the driver of Chindi had also turned hostile in the court. Chindi’s brother was not happy with tag of police informer which his brother was carrying and led to his murder.

“My brother just knew some cops. We are from a well-to-do and educated family,” said Akram.
