6 godowns, 15 shanties gutted in major fire in Pune

Six godowns of waste paper and 15 shanties were gutted in a major fire in Mangalwar Peth on wee hours of Wednesday, but there were no reports of casualties.

Fire brigade personnel from Kasba Fire station suspect that the fire broke out due to short circuit near Balaji waste paper godown in the area. The police estimated the losses at Rs33 lakh.

According to the fire brigade personnel, the fire broke out at around 12.30 am and they got a call at 12.45 am. They reached the spot with 12 fire vehicles and eight water tankers.

Fire officer Sunil Gilbile said, “When we reached the spot, the fire had engulfed all the godowns and shanties. As many as 70 firemen were deployed to control the fire. The fire was doused within 45 minutes.”
