6 dead, 15 injured in accident near Manor

Six people died while 15 others were injured in early hours on Wednesday when a truck carrying a marriage party from Virar fell in the Vadrai river near Manor. Three of the injured, who were rushed to Bhagwati hospital, Borivli are said in critical condition.

According to preliminary information, a marriage party was returning to Bodgaon village from Virar when the accident occurred. There were more than 30 people on the truck and most of them were in deep sleep at the time of accident.

Driver Sudam Bhoir, 40, lost the control on wheel when the truck was passing on the Vadrai river bridge. Within seconds, the truck broke down the bridge wall and fell into water. Two women, one man and three children were killed while 15 others were injured. Some were rescued by locals who rushed to the spot after hearing the resounding thud of the accident.

The deceased include driver Sudam’s wife Sudha, 35, Harshala Manoj Bhoir, 17, Sudam’s daughter Jaanki Bhoir, 3, Anikta Bhoir, 4, Atul Anant Bhoir, 5, and Dayanad Dattu Bhoir, 35.

The victim,s hailing from Bodgaon village in Manor town in the district, were returning home after attending a marriage ceremony in Virar, Thane district rural police said. Three of the injured, who are said to be critical, have been shifted to a hospital in Borivli.
