Police have arrested a 40-year-old scrap dealer from Mankhurd, who allegedly raped a 14-year-old girl in his shop on Saturday afternoon.
The accused, Mohammad Chaudhary, runs a shop in the Mandala locality of Mankhurd. According to police, the victim’s father is also a scrap dealer in the same locality.
On Saturday afternoon, Chaudhary, who was arrested on Saturday evening, called her to his shop and dragged her to a godown in the backyard. He then tied her up in the godown and repeatedly raped her. He also threatened the victim with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident.
The girl’s younger brother, who had seen her going inside Chaudhary’s shop, informed his mother about it. At the request of the girl’s mother, a neighbour went to Chaudhary shop and asked him about her.
Chaudhary said he had called the girl to his shop to ask her about his mobile phone and other valuables worth Rs25,000 which she had allegedly stolen from his shop. He also told the neighbour that after the questioning, he had let her go.
By then, the victim had reached home and informed her mother about the incident. The girl’s mother took her to the Mankhurd police station and registered a case.
Police have sent the victim for medical tests at Shatabdi Hospital where she has been admitted.
A police officer said, “The accused has been booked for rape and wrongful confinement.”
