The Ghatkopar police have arrested four conmen, including a woman, who duped several educated youths in Mumbai and other parts of the country by promising them jobs in foreign countries via websites like naukri.com and Google.

“The police arrested Santosh Prajapati, 28, younger brother Sunil Prajapati alias Mukesh,25, Lalit Chabisa alias Viral and Reshma Yadav alias Fatima, 21 from their rented house at Kashimira in Thane district, “ said a police inspector from Ghatkopar police station and added that they were remanded to police custody till April 18 by the court.

During interrogation it was revealed that Chabisa was the brain behind the racket while Reshma was his girlfriend. Chabisa used to work for a placement agency at Udaipur in Rajasthan. The police recovered three laptops, 19 mobile phones, a Scooty, a motor cycle, several bank pass books and driving licences. They had also cheated others in Andhra Pradesh, J&K, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, added the officer.

The incident came to light when Ghatkopar resident Pankaj Shetye applied for a job in Singapore, after seeing an ad in Naukri.com. After receiving his details, Sunil Prajapati told that if he needed a job then he should deposit Rs2.5 lakh in an HDFC bank account. Shetye then deposited Rs1.20 lakh in the said account. They then sent a Singapore visa and air ticket to Shetye. When he reached Singapore he was shocked to find that the visa belonged to USHR Construction Co Ltd. He came back and tried to contact Prajapati, but he did not get any response. He realised that he was cheated and lodged a complaint at Ghatkopar police station on March 20, added the officer.
