A 30-year-old woman was arrested by officers of the Tardeo police station on Saturday for allegedly abducting an infant and selling it to a person in Andhra Pradesh, police said.
Dilshaad Shaikh allegedly kidnapped Afzal, son of a Naseem Shaikh, a pavement-dweller in Tardeo on October 24. The baby was sleeping with his mother in their hutment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Dilshaad allegedly sold the infant to a Khader Wali Saheb, a resident of AP for Rs2,000. During investigation, Saheb broke down and confessed to the crime. He said he decided to abduct the child as he and his wife did not have one of their own even 14 years after their marriage.
Dilshaad’s husband and son too aided her in the abduction and have been arrested for abetting the crime, added police. The police produced them in court which remanded them in police custody till November 6.
