2nd PYC children’s biathlon on Jan 22

The 2nd PYC Amanora biathlon, an event to encourage safe and better cycling among schoolchildren, will be organised by the cycle groups of Rotary clubs of Pune Westside and Pune Westend on January 22. The event is open to students from standards VII-X.

A press statement issued by the Rotary Club on Saturday stated that the aim of the biathlon was to encourage young cyclists to take up cycling seriously.

According to the Rotary Club, the first event held on December 5, 2010, had attracted 200 young boys and girls.
The event will see students cover a distance of 15 km followed by a 3-km run around the PYC jogging track.

There will be attractive prizes for winners. The four best cyclists will be given Yellow Jerseys. The entry fee is Rs50 and wearing cycling helmets is compulsory. Those interested in taking part in the biathlon should register their names with PYC Hindu Gymkhana before January 19. The pre-event briefing will be held at PYC Hindu Gymkhana at 7 pm on January 20. Fitness trainer Mahendra Gokhale will give fitness tips to all participants and Life Cycle’s Ulhas Joshi will guide cyclists about cycling techniques.
