First additional principal judge ML Tahaliyani on Thursday asked the prosecution why it didn’t investigate the role of the owner of Callphonex, a VoIP (voice over internet protocol) service provider based in the US, which allegedly provided service to the accused during the 26/11 terror attacks.

The owner of the service had told the court via video-conferencing that on October 20, 2008, a man called Kharak Singh had sent him an email requesting service.

While Singh claimed he was from India, the first payment of $25O was made from Pakistan by one Mohammed Ishfaq, he said. The second payment of $229 was made through Western Union

Transfer on October 25, 2008, by Javed Iqbal who gave a Pakistani passport number for identification.

The prosecution claims that Singh is a false identity created for availing the VoIP services.

The judge expressed that the conduct of the witness was dubious, to which special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said that he had no knowledge of the conspiracy. Nikam added that anybody can pay and avail of the VoIP services.

The judge, however, told Nikam that the role of the owner of the service provider should have been examined carefully.
