Rubbishing the claim of Pakistani gunman Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab that photographs showing him in terror acts were morphed, the prosecution in the 26/11 case placed great importance to the evidence given by press photographers.
Kasab had said that the photographs showing him firing at people at CST railway station were morphed.
However, special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam placed importance on the deposition of Sebastian D’Souza, chief photographer of a tabloid. “The evidence of D’Souza is corroborated independently by documentary evidence,” Nikam said.
Nikam argued that for morphing a photograph, the original photo of that person is needed. Kasab’s photograph was published on November 27, 2008.
First additional principal judge, ML Tahaliyani said, “Some witnesses have claimed that they didn’t see any photographs of Kasab before they saw him in court. That portion of the evidence is false.”
The judge, however, clarified that if a witness says one false thing, it didn’t mean everything he said is false as well.
