The mourning family members of the crew of the ill-fated trawler MV Kuber which was hi jacked by 26/11 attackers Ajmal Kasab and other Lashker-e-Taiba terrorists, are still to come out of the trauma of death of the sole earning members of their families.
Moreover the government compensated mere Rs50,000 to the mourning families.
A family member of one of the deceased, Harish Tandel, told DNA that the government earlier had promised to pay Rs1 lakh to the families. "The government has paid us Rs50,000 against Rs1,00,000 promised earlier," said Tandel.
Tandel further said that, the condition of the families of the crew members is bad and are even finding it difficult to make ends meet.
"If the Maharashtra government can pay Rs5 lakh to the deceased Amarsinh Solanki, captain of boat Kuber, then why are other crew members not paid the same," he said.
The state government should pay at least a lakh rupees to the members, he said. "The interim benefit received to the families, is important but is very less if considered the present plight of the deceased's families," a source in the fishing community told DNA.
The source, who do not want to be named, further said that the family of Amarsingh Solanki had been given Rs5 lakh as compensation from the Maharashtra government, while no other crew members have been compensated by either of the government.
"Rs50,000 was issued by the chief minister relief fund on November 22, 2009, almost a year after the 26/11 terrorists attack," he said.
The other crew members who are still missing and have claimed the compensation from the state government are Ramesh Nagji Solanki,36, a resident of Junagadh, Tandel, 45, Mukesh Ambu Rathod, 20, both residents of Valsad and Nanu Lalubhai Rathod, 23, a resident of Jalalpur in Navasari.
"Three out of these four people have been given Rs50,000 however, the family of the one deceased is still to get any help from the government," he said.
