After the SC upheld the death sentence of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack survivor Ajmal Kasab, Vinita, widow of late cop Ashok Kamte, demanded that Kasab should be hanged at the earliest.

While speaking to DNA, Vinita said: "The upholding by the SC was all in the process and Kasab should be hung now." "His hanging should be done quickly and it would be apt given the background of the horror and utter destruction he had unleashed in Mumbai that night," she added.

Kamte was the ACP during the attack. He, encounter specialist Vijay Salaskar and then state anti-terrorism squad chief Hemant Karkare had lost their lives while fighting the terrorists near Cama Hospital.

Vinita, on her part, had made several investigations through the Right to Information Act, which exposed serious glitches in the police's security arrangements. She also got her hands on the call logs during the fateful night. Her investigations had formed the basis of a book, To the Last Bullet, which went on to become a national bestseller.
