22 held for vandalising Marathi daily office

In all, 22 persons were arrested by the Azad Maidan police on Saturday for allegedly ransacking office of a Marathi daily newspaper.

A local court on Sunday remanded the arrested in custody till Monday. The newspaper had written an article about a Shiv Sena leader defecting into NCP.

The police said a mob gathered outside the office of the newspaper opposite CST railway station protesting against an article in Maharashtra Times which claimed Sena MP from Amravati, Anandrao Adsul defecting to the NCP.

“We arrested 17 persons from the spot and later arrested five more. We also  have the CCTV footages from the office and news channels at the spot,” said senior inspector Deepak Dhole of Azad Maidan police.
