Kurla railway police have interrogated at least 200 hawkers in connection with the brutal murder of Jameela Patel, 55, in an unreserved compartment of the Kurla-Terminus bound Godavari Express on February 12. But they have not been able to make headway in the case.
Senior inspector Dilip Gore of Kurla railway police station said, “We found a blood-stained knife near the body. That kind of knife is used by hawkers selling fruits in the train. Therefore, we have interrogated more than 200 hawkers who sell fruits and others goods in the trains between Igatpuri station and Kurla Terminus.”
Gore said he suspected that the murder took place between Kalyan and Kurla because her four woman co-passengers in the same compartment reportedly told the police that they had alighted at Kalyan. After that, the victim, who wanted to get down at Kurla, was alone in the compartment.
Jameela Patel, resident of Mankhurd, boarded the train at Nashik at 9.30 am and arrived at 1 pm the same day at Kurla Terminus.
