Holi revelry proved costly for five youths. Four youths, including two higher secondary certificate (HSC) students, died and their friend sustained serious injuries in a road accident after their car collided head-on with a truck on Talegaon-Chakan Road at around 2.10 am on Thursday. The HSC examinees and their three friends were returning to the city from Konkan after celebrating Holi when they met with the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Anil Shivaji Limbore (18), Sachin Dattatraya Vahile (18), Akshay Suresh Vahile (18) and Amol Pophale (19). Their friend Ganesh Satish Naikare (18) is seriously injured and admitted to Aditya Birla Hospital.

According to constable Mukhtar Shaikh of Talegaon Dabhade police station, “Anil, Amol and Ganesh are from Chakan, while Sachin and Akshay were the residents of Waki Khurd in Khed Taluka. Sachin and Anil were currently appearing for the HSC exams. With a two-day gap for the next paper, the duo had gone to Konkan with three other friends to celebrate Holi.”

Shaikh said, “Anil was driving his father’s Ford Fiesta on the way back to Chakan. Their car collided head-on with the truck coming from the opposite side near Indori village. All the five occupants were trapped in the four-wheeler for nearly an hour. Four youngsters died on the spot, while Ganesh sustained head injuries and was rushed to Aditya Birla Hospital where his condition remains critical.”

The police have detained the truck driver Nandkishor Dilip Pathare (23).
