Kasara Ghat has proven deadly once again. Two people lost their lives and five were injured in a car accident at Kasara Ghat near Nashik on Sunday. Family members of former BMC corporator Damodar Patil were going to Shirdi when the car skidded off the road and fell into a 22-foot- deep gorge at Kasara.

Seven members of the family from Bhandup in Mumbai, including three women and two children, were seriously injured in the accident that took place at 9.45 am. The family was rushed to the nearby Kasara Grameen Hospital. Unfortunately, Sunita Damodar Patil (45), and 11-year-old Ayush Subhash Bhoir succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.  The rest of the family, including 65-year-old former corporator,  is recuperating in a private hospital in Nashik, say authorities.

According to the highway officials, the accident took place as the driver lost control of the Maruti Van and fell into a gorge. “We are not sure whether Sunita Patil was the wife of Damodar. But two people have died and the others are recovering,’’ said an official.
