The police on Wednesday night recovered the decomposed bodies of two city residents, who were killed in a mishap on the Bangalore-Mumbai highway in the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Ashish Mishra, 26, a marketing executive, and Anshu Vaishnav, 30, a small-scale entrepreneur. The duo was not wearing helmets.

The police said that their two-wheeler was hit by a speeding vehicle and the duo was thrown several metres away from the spot. The impact killed the duo instantly.

A police patrol immediately rushed to the spot after a bus passenger, who witnessed the accident, alerted them. However, they failed to locate the bodies. The police even visited some hospitals to trace the victims, but in vain.

While Mishra, a resident of Bavdhan, hailed from Lucknow, Vaishnav of Dhankavdi was from Dehradun. The police concluded that the youths must have lost control of the vehicle in an inebriated condition. A fortnight ago, the police had registered a case of drunk driving against Mishra.

Early on Wednesday, a local resident spotted the bodies behind some bushes and called the police. They were identified on the basis of their PAN cards and ATM cards.

“The families of the deceased performed their final rites as the bodies were not in the condition to be taken home,” police officials said.
