It’s back to classrooms for over 153 police officials and constables of the Pune police commissionerate. While 78 police officials have registered for two-year MBA course in public policy and management, 75 police constables will be studying BA in police
administration.

All have taken admissions in Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) and will be pursuing their courses through the varsity’s centre at Pune.

Subjects like human rights, social studies, economics, information technology and psychology have been included in the BA degree, while management, organisation behaviour and HRD management will form part of the MBA syllabus.

The YCMOU had launched special degree courses for policemen in the state from August last year. The courses are offered at subsidised fees for policemen from the ranks of constable to deputy superintendent of police (DySP).

The BA courses are for those who are in the ranks of constable to assistant police inspector level while MBA course is for police sub inspectors to DySP level officers.

“The aim behind starting these courses is to bring positive changes among the police force and increase their efficiency level. It will also increase their confidence while doing their duty,” said
varsity officials.

Moreover, subjects like human rights, social studies, economic, informational and technology and psychology will further increase their thinking power and enhance their knowledge of society.

According to the assistant registrar of Pune centre of the varsity, Uttam Jadhav, the course lectures will begin from next month.
“The lectures would be organised as per the convenience of the police officials and constables. While the lectures in MBA course will be in English, for BA course it would be in Marathi,’’ Jadhav said.

Deputy commissioner of police Sanjay Jadhav, who has taken admission for MBA course, feels that the course would help him professionally.

He told DNA “I have taken admission in this course because it will to develop my professional skills.”
