After 14 years, a head constable was exonerated from the charge of accepting a bribe. Justice AP Bhangale of the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court was hearing an appeal filed by Yashwant Dadmal, who was attached with the Mahakali police chowky at Chandrapur.

On September 1, 1998, Subhash Yelpulla, an auto driver, and three of his friends were hanging out when one of them hurled a stone which hit a passing motorbike. Dadmal was riding the bike. He got down, took the names of all the four men and asked them to come to Mahakali police chowky the next day.

Yelpulla went to the police chowky after three days along with “police mitra” Vijay Dindewar. Dindewar reportedly told Yelpulla that Dadmal had demanded Rs400 failing which he [Yelpulla] would be prosecuted. Yelpulla approached the anti-corruption bureau. A trap was laid and Dadmal was caught while “accepting Rs300”.
