One of the two wanted planters in the 13/7 triple blast had enrolled himself in a gym in Dagdi Chawl, said the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) officials on Friday.
Last week when ATS chief Rakesh Maria announced the arrest of two men in the blast case, he had referred to the two planters as A and B and not divulged the names.
According to the ATS officials, the planter took the membership of Gulabpuran Gawli Medical Fitness Centre on August 10 last year and was a member till October.
Dagdi Chawl is considered the den of former don-turned-politician Arun Gawli. The police are investigating why the planter took the gym’s membership when he had enrolled himself in another gym in March last year. “Normally, membership is not given in that gym without a reference. We are identifying how the planter got membership in the gym and who introduced him there,” said an ATS officer, requesting anonymity.
He added that gym charges were Rs3,500 a month and Rs200 entrance fee.
“We have seized the gym’s register and will make inquiries with the person who had enrolled him there. The planter has given his age above 24 years in the membership form and the residence address was in Byculla. We don’t know why he got himself enrolled in the gym in Dadgi Chawl when he had joined a gym in March last year at Kumbharwada, which is close to the blast site at Opera House,” said the officer.
The ATS will soon give a fresh date to Taqi Ahmed, brother of the arrested suspect Naqi Ahmed, to visit its office in Mumbai for inquiries. Taqi lives in Delhi and was supposed to visit the office on Friday. “Taqi told us that he couldn’t get a train ticket and was also not well. We will soon give him another date to come to the office,” the officer said.
