The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) last week suspended 11 doctors for flouting norms of the Pre-Conception Pre-Natal Detection Techniques Act (PCPNDT) Act. Ten doctors were also given warning letters for violating the Act.
The suspended doctors were practising in Jalgaon, Beed, Ahmednagar, Yavatmal, Sangli, Satara, Solapur and Wardha.
“On Tuesday, February 12, we suspended nine doctors while two were suspended on February 13,” said Dr Kishore Taori, president of MMC.
The MMC has remarked that many doctors from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Science, Wardha, are conducting ultrasounds under single PCPNDT licence. This is not allowed as per the norms laid down in the Act.
Taori added that the matter has been taken to court.
