11 people injured after bus turnover in Mumbai

After the accident bus driver fled from the spot and passersby rushed to the injured passengers to the nearby hospital.

Eleven people were suffered injury including two children and six women on Tuesday night after a Volvo bus driver lost control and hit the divider on western express highway in Kandivali (east) and bus was overturn. After the accident bus driver fled from the spot and passersby rushed to the injured passengers to the nearby hospital.

According to the Samta nagar police, the incident took place around 10:45pm when the private bus of Om Sai Travels was heading towards Bhayender area to leave the passengers who had come to attend the marriage in Vile Parle.

“There were around 40 passengers in the bus and maximum were from the Mira Road area and Bhayender. They had come to Vile Parle attend a marriage. After the function got over, they boarded in the bus that left for Bhayandar” said police sub inspector S Yadav of Samta nagar police station.

“When the bus left from Vile Parle, driver was driving the bus in very high speed. Few of the passengers noticed and warned driver to drive carefully” said another officer. “In Andheri and Jogeshwari few passengers got off after that driver increased more speed of bus. Unfortunately when the bus reached near Saidham temple on Western Express Highway at Kandivali (east), driver of the bus lost control and drove the vehicle over the divider” added police officer.

“The bus overturned and two children, six women and three men were sustained minor injury. The driver of the bus fled from the spot but passengers any how managed to come out from bus and informed to control. The fire brigade and local police came on the spot and along with passersby the injured passengers were rushed to the Bhagwati Hospital and were given treatment” said Yadva.

“Women and men were discharged in an hour after the first add however children were admitted in Sai Nursing Home in Kandivali for few hours on observation and later they were also discharge in the early morning” said senior police inspector Anant Kenjale of the Samta nagar police station.

“We are trying to trace the bus driver. Few of passengers told that it was appearing that the driver was under the influence of alcohol but after arrest it will be clear that he was drunk or not” said Kenjale.
