10.5% of vehicles in Maharashta ply in Mumbai

There are 19.79 lakh motor vehicles plying on Mumbai roads, which account for almost 10.5% of the total vehicles registered in Maharashtra — 188.27 lakh as on January 2012, said the economic survey.

On the infrastructure projects in the city, the report said work on about 80% of the civil work on the Mumbai Metro Phase-I was completed at a cost Rs1,574 crore until October 2011. The total project cost is Rs 2,356 crore. While approvals were awaited for Mumbai Metro phase-II — Charkop-Bandra-Mankhurd —  a detailed project report was in the final stages of preparation for the third phase — Colaba- Bandra.

The report said that 76% work on the first phase of the monorail — Wadala to Chembur — and 17% work on the second phase —Jacob Circle to Wadala — had been completed. Of the total cost of Rs 2,460, Rs 1,078 was spent until October 2011.

The report has stated that the 27-km Belapur-Uran line that would make possible a direct suburban train between CST and Uran was 17% complete.
