Youth in Mumbai killed after calling Holi reveler a drunkard

A 22-year-old died after he was assaulted by a youth and suffered serious injuries during Holi celebrations in the Valiv area, in Vasai (East), on Monday.

The Valiv police said the victim, Salman Mubarak, was assaulted with an iron rod by Vinodkumar Paswan, 22, and died of multiple injuries on the chest.

"A group of boys were playing Holi in their compound, when Paswan started to created a nuisance. Mubarak asked him to behave himself and is said to have called him a drunkard. This incensed Paswan and sparked off a quarrel," said a police official.

Mubarak suffered wounds on the chest. He was taken to hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.

Paswan has been arrested on a complaint of the residents and booked for murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
