Youth held for raping teenager

A 23-year-old youth was on Wednesday arrested for allegedly raping a teenage girl at her house in October, police said.

Farooque Sheikh had gained the entry into the house under the pretext of repairing internet connection and repeatedly raped the girl who was alone, said inspector K G Gavit of Vartak Nagar police station.

The parents of the girl had gone out on their work when the incident took place, police said, adding the accused threatened the victim of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.

Sheikh was booked under section 376 (1) and 506 of the IPC, besides recently enacted Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

He would be produced before local court on Thursday, police said.
