A 21-year-old youth went live on Facebook on Friday to expose Meghwadi police after he was allegedly insulted and dragged to the police station for trying to reason with them about mode of paying fine. Local police later booked the youth and his father for assaulting a public servant.

On March 17, Siddhesh Sawant, 21, a resident of Meghwadi area and a graduate from International School of Hospitality in Mauritius was riding his two-wheeler when he was stopped by the Meghwadi police at a nakabandi.

The police officials demanded to see his documents, but Sawant was not carrying his license at that time. He contacted his father Vasudeo, 51, who soon brought the license to the spot. "The police kept insisting that I pay the fine in cash and take the receipt. I tried to reason with them by saying that I was ready to pay the fine, but through e-challan. But they took me to police station instead," said Sawant.

"I recorded videos of police insulting me when I told them that according to new rules all fines are to be paid via e-challan. They still demanded a cash payment, and filed a fake case against my father and I," said Sawant.

"As a law abiding citizen, I have the right to question a public servant. Thankfully I recorded the video on Facebook, because the police forcibly deleted the videos from my phone gallery hoping to have destructed the evidences against them. The officer stopped when he learnt that the video is live on Facebook or else he would have assaulted us more," said Sawant.

Pandurang Patil, Senior Inspector, Meghwadi police station denied the allegations saying, "They were creating ruckus and obstructed us from going ahead with our duty. So we have registered a case against them."
