Youth Congress on Monday held a protest outside the BMC headquarters to protest the "pathetic" condition of roads and met the civic chief, who promised them that the roads will be repaired within a week.

"The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has spent hundreds of crores to repair roads that have been riddled with potholes across the city," Ganesh Yadav, president of Mumbai Pradesh Youth Congress said.

"But there has been no improvement in the condition. This causes massive traffic jams and pose a threat to the lives of people who travel on two wheelers," he added.
Yadav said that they met Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte, who promised them that all the roads will be repaired within a week.

"The pathetic condition of roads is due to the corporator-contractor-bureaucrat nexus," he alleged.

"We told the commissioner that the contractors pay huge kickbacks to get tenders for road repair work. They are then given a free hand and their shoddy work is ignored," he alleged.

The roads should be made in such a way that no potholes develop on them, the Congress leader said adding, "Even if there are potholes, they should be repaired immediately, as they pose a threat to the lives of the average citizen during the monsoon," he said.
