Following media reports of former Mumbai police commissioner R D Tyagi meeting Lalit Modi, the retired top cop has defended his meeting with the cricket entrepreneur in London.
Speaking to dna, Tyagi said "After I have retired from the service, I am a common man and a civilian. I am not bound by any service rules now. Whom I meet now and what kind of help I give to someone is my prerogative. If have helped Lalit Modi I have not committed any crime."
Tyagi also stated that Modi was not an absconder or a fugitive as he is just wanted in a case for investigation. Till the probe agency does not investigate the case completely and file a charge sheet against Modi, he is just a suspect and not an accused, said Tyagi.
"People are blowing the matter out of proportion, he is just a suspect and till the time he is not convicted any help rendered to him from my end is not a crime."
