A wrong announcement made at Wadala station caused chaos on the Harbour line of Central Railway (CR) on Tuesday morning. Angry commuters pulled the chain to stop the train and started walking towards the motorman’s cabin to question this confusion. This comes a day after the Federation of Suburban Passenger Association submitted a letter to the CR asking them to run trains without any delay, else commuters would be forced to come on tracks, in protest.

At around 10.30 am, a local train headed towards Navi Mumbai arrived at Wadala station on platform 1. Sources said that chaos erupted as an announcement at the platform indicated that that train was headed to Bandra. It was a Belapur-bound train that started from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). Commuters inside the coaches alighted and those going to Bandra boarded the train.

“There was an announcement made before the train left Wadala station stating that the train was going to Belapur and not Bandra. But, it seems that commuters did not listen to the second announcement,” said a CR official. Irked by the chaos, commuters pulled the chain and the train stopped between Wadala and GTB Nagar.

“The administration has failed to run the train services properly and there have been constant delays every day,” said Nandkumar Deshmukh, president, Federation of Suburban Passenger Association. Train services on the Harbour line were disrupted for 15-20 minutes.
