Women need to take on lead role in society: Mahant Rajendradas

"Women fulfiling their roles as mother, wife, sister and daughter may be the answer to life in this complicated, corrupted world. Their dharma can save culture," stressed Mahant Rajendradas of the Shree Panch Nirmohi Ani Akhada on Thursday.

The mahant of the Vaishnav Akhada, who is camping in Nashik for the Kumbh Mela, emphasised that today's culture, which is gearing for development of society, is not beneficial, so much so that falsehood has cropped up in all spheres of life, even in the life of a sadhu.

"If this deterioration of life has to be stopped, women will once again have to take the lead role, like in the past, when they donned responsibility in the form of Goddess Kali to end evil. Earlier, women led society. Then came a time when men assumed a superior role. But, now it is time again that women become strong and repel attacks on family and society and reinstate the glory of Hindu culture," he said.

He added that the life of asadhu has changed in present day, saying they are now more involved in show of strength and concerned with number of followers. "They demand respect, prestige and status, which in reality is not the way for a sadhu.

"The rishis of yore studied the Vedas, Puranas and were engrossed in giving knowledge to society. Now, leaders are proud. Times have changed, and so has society. The sadhu has also changed. But this is not good for dharma," he said.

He also said that there are good gurus even today, but true chelas are missing. "Haat ka guru, Bhat ka chela, Subaha pakada, Shyam ko akela," he said, quoting a common verse, depicting the plight of gurus today.

According to Rajendradas, Hindu dharma is moving away from its core because followers have moved away from its essence. In contrast, followers of other communities stick vehemently to the norms laid down by their dharma. Like them, those following Hindu dharma should not compromise, he said. "All religions preach the same thing, and people should understand this."

Rajendradas said, "There are so many kathas in the name of dharma. The kathakar's role is to simplify dharma. Today, kathas have become show business. They don't teach people the meaning of life but showcase false grandeur, music and dance."

"In India, youth get addicted and people are moving away from life's true goal. Everyone is in in a rush to earn money. If this is the case, who will guide our children and youth? Women need to become stronger and guide life back on track. Or else, Kalyug will take life to its end," he added.
