Ever since the 49-year-old woman was allegedly thrashed and molested by the consul general of Bahrain in Mumbai, Abdulaziz Al Khaja, she and her family are going through a trauma.

Since the matter is sensitive and involves a foreign diplomat, the police and the housing society where she works have provided her security.

Speaking to dna on Thursday, the woman said: “Since I was scared after the incident, I requested the police to provide me protection. They have deployed a male and a female constable outside my office. The society where I work has also deployed two security guards in my office.”

The Malabar Hill police alleged that the diplomat had misbehaved with them during the inquiry procedure. “Khaja abused the policemen and pushed them when they approached him. He is misusing his power as we cannot arrest him. We have not registered a complaint against him for abusing the cops but we will mention about this in the charge sheet and bring it to the court’s notice,” said an officer from Malabar Hill police station.

Khaja lives on the fourth floor of 24-storey Silver Arch building at Nepeansea Road. The woman, a resident of Borivli, works as a housing society manger. Due to a technical problem, only one lift was was working on December 9. Khaja told the security guard that he wanted to speak with the society manager. “When the guard informed me through the intercom, I immediately went down from my second floor office from another lift that was working. While I reached the lobby, I came to know that Khaja had climbed up the two floors to my office. I took the lift to the office but he had returned to the lobby,” the woman said.

The diplomat lost his temper and started screaming at the security guards and started kicking the lift door. “I tried to calm him down but in vain. He said he had a knee problem. I told him that if he had a knee problem, why was he kicking the lift?” said the woman.

“The diplomat started using abusive words and pushed me. The guards tried to stop him but he pushed and abused them,” she said. “Khaja then went inside the office and ransacked it.”

The society members gave a written application to the police against Khaja. “We called the woman and recorded her statement on December 13. We have booked Khaja under sections  354 (molestation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult a woman’s modesty) and 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the IPC,” said a police officer.
