In a shocking incident, a senior official from Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) was brutally murdered by his 49-year-old schizophrenic wife at their residence in the IOC staff quarters in Shivaji Nagar, Govandi on Monday. The accused has been arrested by the police but due to her mental condition she has been admitted to Sion hospital.

According to the Shivaji Nagar police, around 7.30am on Monday when the deceased, identified as Debashish Sen, was working on his computer, his wife came from behind and allegedly hit his head with a pestle. When Sen collapsed on the ground, the accused stabbed him repeatedly by a sharp object on his wrist, neck and forehead.

The incident came to light when Sen's four colleagues came to his residence to pick him in a car to go to work. In spite of repeated honking when Sen did not come down, they went up to his residence to check on him. "When the friends went into the room, they saw Sen lying in pool of blood. His wife was also present in the room trying to clean the blood," said an officer from Shivaji Nagar police station.

Sen's colleagues immediately informed the police and his daughter Nivedita Sen, who lives at Kandivli. Nivedita registered an official complaint against her mother after learning about the entire incident.

During investigations it was revealed that the accused had a history of schizophrenia and has been undergoing treatment for the past several years. "The accused killed her husband after she got an schizophrenic attack. We have come to know that during her attacks, she would believe that her husband would kill her and she had confided about it to a few people," said Vinay Rathod, deputy commissioner of police, Zone VII. "The accused has been admitted in Sion hospital and is undergoing treatment," Rathod added.
