A couple from Govandi has alleged that a local doctor, Nitesh Jain of AK Diagnostic Centre, gave the woman a wrong blood report indicating she tested HIV positive, during one of the pre-delivery medical tests.
The couple has alleged that this caused a lot of tension to her and the members of the family, leading to her delivering a stillborn child.

The husband, Mohammed Monis Khan, in his complaint to public health minister Suresh Shetty has alleged that in May 2013, his wife Nazreen was taken to Dr Jain's diagnostic centre for a regular check up. And that the report given by the centre put the couple under acute depression and they faced humiliation from relatives and the society at large. In May, 2013, the woman delivered a stillborn child because she was suffering from hyper-tension.

The couple then thought of committing suicide, but their relatives dissuaded them. Persuaded by their relatives, Nazreen decided to restart treatment and went for a blood test in June 2013 at Alpha Clinic in Kurla. The new report, however, contradicted the report provided by AK Diagnostic Centre; it said Nazreen was HIV negative.

Social activist and trade union leader Rakesh Shetty has demanded stringent action against AK Diagnostic Centre. "The couple was pushed to the brink of death. I have requested health minister Suresh Shetty to order an inquiry against this diagnostic laboratory and suspend its licence pending probe," Shetty, who led a protest demonstration on Thursday, said. "To reconfirm the second blood report, the woman underwent a test at Mumbai District Aids Control Society at Wadala; that report also categorically stated that Nazreen was HIV negative," Shetty added.

Shyam Agarwal, senior PI, Shivaji Nagar police station, said: "If the complainant approaches us, action will be taken as per law." Pritam Jain, brother of Dr Nitesh Jain, refused to comment on the case and said Dr Jain was away at work and could not be contacted.
