Woman held for extorting money from builders, businessmen in Malad

The police have learnt that she was previously arrested (in some other police station's jurisdiction) and was out on bail.

The Kurar police have arrested a 35-year-old woman who works as a social worker for allegedly extorting money from builders, businessmen, famous personalities and shopkeepers in the areas of Malad, Dindoshi and Goregaon. The accused has been identified as a member of the Samajwadi Party.

An officer said, "She has been extorting money from people in the area for three years now. She used to introduce herself as an officer at our police station. At times, she would also identify herself a politician, besides being a social worker, and demand money for welfare activities."

The police have learnt that she was previously arrested (in some other police station's jurisdiction) and was out on bail. After presenting her in the local magistrate court, she was sent to judicial custody till May 25 and is in Byculla jail.
