The arrested woman has been identified as Purity Renniet, a resident of Gaonthan in Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz police have arrested a 26-year-old woman for allegedly murdering a businessman inside the latters XUV in the wee hours of Monday. The police sources claimed that the woman and the deceased were reportedly into a relationship and the woman killed him after the deceased started blackmailing him.
The arrested woman has been identified as Purity Renniet, a resident of Gaonthan in Santa Cruz.
According to the police, on Monday at around 12.30 am, the deceased - Tilakraj Rajput alias Raju (43), resident of Santa Cruz, was found unconscious in his Mahindra XUV at SV Road. He was moved to Cooper Hospital, where he was declared dead by the medical officer.
"Strangulation marks were visible on the neck of the deceased. After checking his mobile phone call record details of Rajput, it was learnt that he had his last conversation with Renniet. Upon enquiry, it was learnt that the deceased was in a relationship with Renniet. She was then brought for interrogation and after sustained questioning, she broke down and admitted to have committed the crime," said an officer from Santa Cruz police station.
According to the police officer, Rajput had a laundry business and it used to give services to 5-star hotels, and that Rajput had met Renniet, who works in a hotel, through a common friend. "They were in a relationship and Rajput used to splurge a lot of money on Renniet. However, last month, Renniet had a love marriage and was staying with her husband in a rented room at Juhu Gaonthan. But Rajput would force her to meet him. Ranniet informed the police that Rajput would often blackmail her, by stating that he would reveal about their relationship to her husband," added the police officer.
According to the police sources, Rajput, on Sunday, went to meet Renniet at her residence at around 5 pm and forced her to accompany him. "They later went to SV Road near LIC office in Santacruz in Rajput's XUV. Rajput reportedly consumed alcohol there, after which, they had a heated argument between them and seizing opportunity, Renniet strangulated Rajput using her dupatta and later fled from the spot. We suspect that Renniet alone cannot commit such a crime and a possibility of the involvement of more persons is being investigated. We have arrested Renniet on the charges of murder. She was produced before a local court in Bandra on Monday and has been remanded to police custody till September 3," said the officer.
