Woman gets husband arrested for raping daughter

In a case of incest, the LT Marg police on Monday arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly raping and sexually abusing his 14-year-old daughter for over four years.

According to the police, the girl earlier lived with her parents and three younger brothers in a servant quarter of a hospital in Peddar Road, but the family later shifted to Chira Bazar. While her mother works as a sweeper, the father is unemployed.

"When she was a 10-year-old, the father started molesting the girl whenever she was alone at home. He subsequently raped her and threatened to set her ablaze if she informed anyone about it," said a police sub-inspector, requesting anonymity.

As per the officer, the girl, however, gathered courage and narrated her ordeal to her mother. "Fearing that the incident would affect the family's pride, the mother told her not to tell anyone about it with the assurance that she would speak to her husband."

"On Monday, the accused came home drunk and as per the complaint, he first threw his wife and three sons out of the house and tried to rape the teenager again. This time, her mother intervened and rescued the girl with the help of locals. She then approached the police to lodged a complaint. The man was then arrested," the officer said.

The accused has been arrested under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on charges of rape, molestation and threat.
