A 28-year-old woman was allegedly found murdered at her Colaba residence on Wednesday. The deceased woman has been identified as Shweta Mahendra Tandel, a resident of Colabawadi.

According to the police, between 8.45 am and 12.30 pm an unidentified person entered Tandel's residence, assaulted her and had slit her throat with a sharp object. At the time of the incident, Tandel's husband Mahendra was at work.

"When Mahendra returned home at 12.30 pm, he found his wife lying in a pool of blood. Her husband took her to St George hospital and informed other family members," an officer said.

However Shweta was declared dead before admission. The hospital authorities informed the police and a case was registered.

The police are probing if anyone from the family was involved in the crime. "We have registered a case of murder on the basis of the complaint by Shweta's father Dhananjay Tandel, a postman by profession. We have not given anybody a clean chit and will also be questioning family members and relatives," said the officer.

"We have not found the murder weapon, and are investigating," said Manoj Kumar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone I.
