In a major undercover operation conducted at a 5-star hotel in the western suburbs on Monday, the Social Service Branch (SSB) of the crime branch arrested a 40-year-old woman for allegedly forcing girls into prostitution. She was later handed over to Dindoshi police for further investigation. The police also rescued two small-time models in the process.
The lady pimp involved in the racket is Aarti Parveen Patel, a resident of Lokhandwala in Andheri (W). "The SSB has handed over the case to us and we are investigating it," said police inspector Dilip Yadav of Dindoshi station.
According to SSB sources, the department had information that Aarti Parveen Patel was involved in high-profile prostitution racket. "As per the information, she was instrumental in providing girls working with television and modelling industry to businessmen," said an officer privy to the operation.
The police asked a decoy customer to get in touch with Patel. "The decoy contacted Patel and she agreed to provide girls for a certain amount. The meeting spot was fixed at a suburban five-star hotel on Monday night. Patel had promised that the customer (decoy) would be shown four girls," said the officer.
As per the plan, the 'customer' booked a room in the hotel. "Around 9.30 pm, Patel came to the hotel room with two girls, both around 28-years of age. Around 10 pm, the 'customer' alerted us about the presence of girls in his room. We then entered the room and caught the girls and the pimp red-handed while accepting money," the officer said.
The girls, residents of Oshiwara area, were rescued by the police. "These girls take small time modelling assignments.
"A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act and IPC section 370 (3) against Patel for procuring girls for the purpose of prostitution," said another police officer.
