With 90% success rate, Mumbai division bags fourth place in state

Mumbai schools have put up a good show in Class 10 Board exams with a large number of schools recording a 100 per cent pass percentage, this year. Mumbai division, which also includes Thane, Raigad and Palghar stood fourth amongst the nine divisions in the state with an overall success rate of 90.09%.

Dattatray Jagtap, Secretary, Mumbai divisional board said that the overall results for the region have been good. "The results have been really good this year."

"The marginal dip in the overall pass percentage can be attributed to the fact that more private candidates appeared from the division this year. A large number of students have scored distinctions," added Jagtap.

As per data, 796 schools in the city recorded a 100% pass percentage with 10,157 students scoring above 90% marks this year. Principals said that extra marks for sports, art and cultural quota have helped students better their scores this year. "A large number of students, who had some or the other achievements in art, culture and sports have benefited as they have been allotted upto 25 marks depending on the level of achievement.

Both average and high scorers have benefited from this policy," said Sadhana Sahasrabuddhe, Principal, Parle Tilak Vidyalay, which got a 100% pass percentage.

Madhukar Yadav, Principal, Balmohan Vidya Mandir in Dadar said that the number of students scoring above 90% has gone up substantially.

"We have 49 students scoring above 90% this year in comparison to 35 students last year. Students have scored really well across subjects," said Yadav.

Meanwhile, over 1.19 lakh students had registered for admissions to first year junior college in the city until Tuesday evening.
