Window to the world: Amazon to sell products made by Maharashtra's self-employed women

Amazon, one of the largest platforms has shown keen interest and would be ready to sell these products along with Bamboo products, Khadi products and other such products of the state.

Lakhs of self-employed women working through self-help groups in the state have every reason to smile since their products would now be in a world market... Amazon, one of the largest platforms has shown keen interest and would be ready to sell these products along with Bamboo products, Khadi products and other such products of the state.

An official from the Chief Minister's office told DNA that Amazon has already signed an MoU with the State in July and on coming Tuesday, it would sign a set of MoUs. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis would be present for the MoU signing ceremony which would open the window for products created by Women's SHGs in the state.

The official informed that Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal or Mavim, products through Small industries development initiatives, products which would come from newly formed Bamboo Promotion Foundation and MahaKhadi would be sold via Amazon platform.

The official informed that there is no definite information as to how much is the volume of products and its turnover through products of women's SHGs in the state. The official informed that at present Khadi products have Khadi board for the same while small industries development bank and Corporation look after their domain, Mavim has its own network of SHGs and there are thousands of SHGs working in various fields. The products range from household items, food-items, artistic handicrafts, Bamboo products, handwoven items, the Kashida work, village art ranging from Tribal art to Purses, bags, furniture, Zoolas and at present it is difficult to estimate as to how big is this market.

State to have handicraft policy soon...

The official informed that the State is trying to bring a handicraft policy soon and it is in the final stages. Interestingly, the interns working with Chief Minister's office were entrusted to undertake this task and they have documented the basic information along with necessary elements for this policy which would be finalised soon.
