Asserting that there is no remote control from Delhi and no KRAs (Key Result Areas) either, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis says he will remain in office for five years unless he commits a mistake.

Fadnavis, who completes two years in office on Monday (October 31), said he had prepared a vision document soon after taking over as Chief Minister and sent it to all department secretaries through the Chief Secretary. KRAs for all secretaries had been prepared.

"I had told the secretaries that these KRAs are your Bhagwad Geeta, Bible and Quran," Fadnavis, who hit national spotlight recently for mediating between filmmaker Karan Johar and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) over the film, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, told a select group of journalists at his official residence Varsha.

The Fadnavis government has been getting flak following massive silent marches in various cities by members of the Maratha community, demanding reservation benefits and amendments in the Atrocities Act to prevent its misuse. The Dalits and the Muslims also took out similar marches after the Maratha protests.

Asked whether there was any possibility of a change of guard in the state, given his own statements indicating that it might happen, the Chief Minister said: "My statement was reported out of context. I had said that the kind of values I was brought up with never taught me to work for any post or any seat of power… that is the reason I had said that even if I am there in this chair for one day, I would work towards bringing social change."

This was taken to mean a likely change of guard, he added, clarifying that he would be chief minister for the full term.

Denying that he was being remote-controlled from Delhi, Fadnavis said that, on the contrary, the Centre had cleared all Maharashtra projects in record time. The coastal road project, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj memorial in the Arabian Sea and the Metro, for instance, had been cleared and put on fast track.

The central government, the Chief Minister said, had provided a record amount of money for the agrarian crisis in Maharashtra. The central government has given away Rs 5,200 crore so far - the highest financial aid in the past 15 years.

CM backs alliance with Sena for BMC polls

Fadnavis made it clear that he wanted an alliance with the Shiv Sena for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) polls due in February 2017. Stating that nationalism and Hindutva had brought the two together 25 years ago, he said they were two different parties with different opinions on a number of issues and heated exchanges do occur. "Sometimes, the Sena criticises us and we do the same if we don't agree to what it has done."
